A life’s dream
The Dharma Room opened on March 11, 2017. It was a life long dream of mine to open a yoga studio, but it wasn’t until I was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for oesophageal cancer that I decided to make it happen.
Yoga has been my saving grace. Not only did it help give me a focus during my treatment, but daily practice has helped my body get back on track and feeling strong, healthy, and flexible again.
If you haven’t tried a form of heated yoga before, don’t be intimidated. It is well worth giving it a go for both the physical and mental benefits provided by the heated room.
Stepping into the studio, you’ll also notice the walls are mirrorless. It was important to me that people felt comfortable in the space — no one is judging you, only the voice inside! Further, the mirrorless room encourages you to listen to instruction and tune into how each posture feels, rather than how it looks.
The wonderful thing with yoga is how it meets people where they are, now, on their journey through this wonderful life. We don’t have to be fit, or perfect at the postures (now or ever), to receive the benefits, we just need to start where we are.
Yoga has helped repair me physically, mentally and spiritually, both on and off the mat, and I am so grateful to be able to now share yoga with you too.
